CEIBS is competitive

With the increase of trains, the China-Europe Railway Network has begun to take shape and demonstrate competitiveness in all aspects.

According to Jonathan Hillman, a researcher at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the China-Europe Railway Network has shown competitiveness in terms of cargo types and transportation costs.

At present, the types of goods transported by trains are more abundant.

Early rail freight goods were typically laptops, cell phones, auto parts and other high value-added goods, mainly because the high cost of rail transporting these products could be offset by lower storage costs.

Today, with the use of refrigerated containers, it is easier to use rails to transport perishable products.

At the same time, the volume of freight and freight are also increasing.

For example, Far East Road and Bridge Corporation, as China's main rail transport operator, has a cargo volume equivalent to 21,900 “40-foot container units” (FEU) in 2016 and 37,000 FEUs in 2017. The total value of freight is also from 2016. The $5.2 million was raised to $16 million.

Rail transport is more competitive in terms of speed and cost.

In 2006, the US Department of Commerce pointed out that compared with maritime transportation, railway transportation is not only expensive but also slower than maritime transportation. But nowadays, the speed of railway transportation has increased dramatically. For example, it took 36 days to ship a 40-foot container from China to Hamburg in Germany in 2006. Today it only takes 16 days and the cost has dropped.
